After a week in bed with pleurisy, it wasn't actually so bad to have an action-packed weekend. It was kind of nice just to be mobile again (although I am definitely feeling fatigued now...).
Spent Saturday morning cleaning out Nan's unit for her move into the nursing home. It was so sad to be packing all her life into boxes, especially that we were able to fit everything into three car loads. Not much left after 82 years... We had a few good laughs though and it was nice to reminisce about stuff that had been pushed to the back of the mind over the years.
After a full day of that it was off to dinner with Laura, Brendan, Matt & Steven. Matt's parents also came along and I was shocked to find out that his Dad is the same age as Nan. It was also a shock to be reminded in the different ways that age affects people. If you'd put them side-by-side you would never have believed that they were the same age. They were just here for a fortnight, holidaying from Christchurch. After months and months of living with earthquakes and aftershocks they decided they needed a break and a few days of feeling safe. The stories they were telling about the quakes were just so scary. Christchurch has basically been decimated and every day people are on edge waiting for the next quake or aftershock.
Today it was yard work, house work, cleaning out the spare room (finally!! It has only taken two and a half years to get a second dresser - thanks, Nan!!), catching up with the family, grocery shopping and then tonight Rachael & Claire were over for dinner. Made me (somewhat) famous Fish & Vegetable stack with Red Emperor. Yummmm! Already looking forward to having it for lunch tomorrow. Now it's a tidy-up, some more washing and the weekend is done.
Where does it go??????
Looks like the weather is already warming up though. We're not even halfway through July and it's already back up around thirty degrees. We got four colder weeks this year though so I shouldn't complain... ;-)
